Dear Mr. Edozien:
Thank you for your letter and the material that you sent me.
In fact, you are going about it the wrong way. The position you mention,
"Research Associate," is normally given to people with PhD. degrees and
with whose work we are already familiar. My opinion is that your best
bet is to apply for admission as a graduate student in the Computer
Science Department with the intention of specializing in Artificial
Intelligence. Admission to the PhD. program carries with it, almost
invariably, a position as Research Assistant which covers tuition and
living expense.
I believe that your background is adequate for admission as a graduate
student in Computer Science, assuming that the Admissions Committee considers
that your abilities compare favorably with other applicants. For application
materials you should write to the Computer Science Department, Stanford
University, Stanford, California 94305. You should obtain this material
in time to take the Graduate Record Examination and submit a completed
application by January 15, for admission by September 1982.
I don't intend this as a brushoff, and I hope you will apply because
I found some interesting observations in your paper on G\"odel, and
I think some of the considerations you mention are important for
Artificial Intelligence.
If you find yourself in the Stanford area, I hope you will visit.
